Wrong information.
For several years now I have been telling people here that I have 4x12 raised beds and the middle was hard to get to.
Well this is wrong. When I measured to finish my arbor I discovered I had made them 5x12. I did this for cosmetic and engineering reasons to make the arbor more stable that is part of the beds. I just wanted everyone that may have taken my judgment to heart to know that now I feel the 4 foot wide bed is just fine for me to reach across to the middle. The 5 foot wide bed also allows me to overlap and fit in three rows of 24 inch wide Texas tomato cages. It does take a little acrobatics to get to the middle though. Nothing I cant handle. Worth |

Worth, my beds are 5 x 12, as well, but I just use two rows of Texas Tomato cages. Good to know I can use three in a pinch.

I bet it's easier to get to when the tomatoes are ripening!

My sisters raised beds which I built for her are 4 ft wide by 8 ft long and IMO 4ft is about as wide as I would go. No trouble for me to reach across but for her its a little bit of a struggle. If any of you are of lesser stature 3 ft may be better.

Our round bed is technically a raised bed, but you can walk in it. It's 14'. This year, we are growing really hot peppers in it (Tabasco and hotter ones like Datil.)

Well, you know the folklore has it, a four foot bed in Texas would have to be five feet by ordinary standards...
I am just a 3 ft wide-bed-reach person myself. However my footprints are smaller than a moose. |

Reaching in to the middle of a four foot bed by us shorties makes for an awesome core workout!

You can walk around it and reach half way from each side comfortably. Unless the bed is built next to the wall. :-)

I didn't want to keep reaching so far.
So, I converted my 4 1/2 foot wide beds to 1.37 meters. |

Wrong Information Worth?
I've been staying up very late for me, almost to midnight, going back to Jan of 2006 when Mischka started Tville, looking for where I might have given some wrong information. Carolyn
