chocolate cherry
Does anyone know of a full sized tomato that tastes like chocolate cherry? My husband just had his first CC and loved it ( more than sungold). All you with great tastebuds please chime in.

You said nothing about dwarf varieties, but it seems to me that almost any so called black variety should be close enough to a larger sized Black Cherry. I refer to pink/blacks, which have a clear epidermis and red/blacks whichhave a yellow epidermis, and think that the pink blacks would come pretty close. Of those I prefer Black from Tula, Indian Stripe and Cherokee Purple, just to name three although there are many more. Some above have given you some selections from The Dwarf Project and if the Dwarfs would work better for you, then the ones given are good choices as well. Hope that helps, Carolyn

Tas is a dwarf, so it will get about four feet tall on a thick central stem. The tomatoes are slicer-sized. Someone else on here estimated that their dwarf plants yield 1/3 as much as an indeterminate, which I think is about right. They also take up about 1/3 the space.

Chocolate, Brown, Black , Purple ???
I am growing one from store bought heirloom. Some people have identified it as black cherry from picture . It seems more like it because , brown cherry looks smaller and more pink and smaller. What I bough (and ate ) was not really a cherry IMO, but rather a good saladette size. Now I am growing one, not knowing what kind of growth habit it will have. But I treat it like an indeterminant. You can see 3 of them in this picture. Gardener |

Others to consider are Black Opal, Kazachka, and several others as possibilities in that container. No way to know unless the container has a label with the source of the fruits and contact info if you wanted to be sure. Carolyn

As I said , there are just 3 brown/black/chocolate color tomatoes in that package/picture . The rest of them are different colors, obviously I was not asking to id those. . The container label just said "Heirloom Cherries ". No heirlooms /OP tomatoes sold in store carries variety name. Or I have never seen such a labeling. All I know at this time is that the plant has RLs. I will check Black Opal and Kazachka. UPDATE: I did a quick google . I found Black Opal pics. It was described as "Similat to Chocolate Cherry, ..". But it also describe as dwarf plant Probably that is not what I got. I also got this description on KAZACHKA Quote:

But to clarify, the person was saying they grew the mini beefsteak version, here's what it's all about and if the seeds were from my seed offer that person would know the following as well since I posted what I'm now going to describe next to the listing. Andrey in Belarus sent me the seeds. I grew several plants, some gave cherrries and some gave mini-beefs. Save seeds from mini beefs and you get both. Save seeds from cherries and you get both. So I contacted Andrey and he said he was getting the same. So if someone is selling 40 plus seeds of mini-beefs the folks that bought them are sure to get both as well if more than maybe two plants are set out. Same taste for both fruit forms, just different shapes. Finally, I didn't mean that retail boxes of fruits would have the names of the various varieties found in a mixed box, I meant that most have a label that indicates the company where the fruits had been grown and also contact information for that company. I know others have been able to trace back what might or might not be included in a mixed pack by doing that. Carolyn

One already stationed by patio door. But one shot and the police will be here in 5 minutes and I have a herd of squirrels. Probably need an AK.
