Default Dwarf Jade Beauty Heart?

Has anybody else experienced heart-shaped Dwarf Jade Beauty? The seed of this plant was purchased from a very reputable seed co. ("Top 5"). I suppose I could have mixed up, but I didn't order any seeds for heart shaped dwarfs , and the plant is definitely a dwarf.

Very interesting - I've noted a slight tendency for faint heart shaped with some fruit - keep an eye on them and confirm the ripe color. There is no heart progeny in this variety, but it is always possible that it got crossed with one of our other heart shaped varieties somewhere along the line.

Then again! - potato leaf heart shaped dwarf - we have none at this point that are released. This is really interesting - see if the shape is consistent and the eventual size and color.

Cool!

Good catch - I edited it - I meant potato leaf heart shaped dwarf! Yes, Pink Passion, Golden Heart, Purple heart all heart shaped, but regular leaf.

Default Dwarf Jade Beauty Striped Heart?

Another surprise! Most of the tomatoes on this plant are distinctly heart shaped (more than this one). However this is the first one to start to ripen, and it's got stripes.

Jade can show slight heart shapes under certain conditions - and the stripes are indistinct and hard to see from that pic. Let's see what it ends up like when fully ripe, check the internal color as well.

It is always possible that it is a cross between our new dwarf varieties - what was your seed source?

Hi Craig. Most of them are distinctly heart shaped, like in my first post here. The source was Victory Seeds.

Will it have a hint of pink on the blossom end when fully ripe (as I've read)?

Of the three smaller Dwarf greens - Jade, Beryl and Kelly - Beryl has the most distinct blush, Jade the least - it can be faintly there, or absent altogether.

As with indeterminate heirlooms, the liklihood of finding crosses is finite - this year I am growing Boronia saved by Bill Minkey, but instead of a medium large purple, I have a medium small brown with faint green stripes - my guess is that Bill had Boronia near Sarandipity and I am growing the F1 of the cross between the two...which is interesting in its own right!

Default Update: ripe fruit

Here are photos of the first ripe fruit. Granted, the shape isn't very "heart", but I wouldn't describe it as the correct globe either, and the stripes are faint.

As I've stated earlier, there are other fruits on the plant that are distinctly heart-shaped. I understand this may be due to environmental conditions - perhaps the "cold-treatment" I gave the seedlings?

Whatever the shape and coloring, this tomato was delicious, with a wonderful spicy touch.

Next up: a truly heart-shaped ripe DJB.

Default Productivity

I am growing following 3 of Dwarf Project:

== Rosella Crimson
== Pink Passion
== Purple Heart

The first two are doing fine but Purple Heart has just 2 or 3 fruits. Pink Passion is probably the best.

BTW: no ripe fruit on any of them yet.

Hi Gardeneer. I have 4 Dwarfs in a greenhouse. Jade Beauty and Sweet Sue are healthy and producing well, and Sean's Yellow is doing so-so. I've had delicious fruits from all three. Mr. Snow is stuggling with early blight, and none have ripened. I have a very healthy Perth Pride in my (outdoor) garden, but we're having an exceptionally cold season, and it only has two tiny fruits.

Default Fully Ripe Heart-shaped DJB

Here it is as promised. Some still on the plant are even more heart shaped, like those in the first post, while others seem to grow out of it. They all taste great. They have a wonderful sweetness with a hint of spice.

Steve,
The ones in the first picture looked like heart but the last ones are no really heart shaped but they appear slightly off the round and elongated. I have Siletz that are like that.
I have an unknown variety with a nice heart shape.( see the picture below)
Most heart shaped varieties are more narrow and elongated. Purple Heat is an example.
