Texas Tomato Cage Storage

For those who have them, what do you do for storage? Do you apply any oil? Or just put them in the shed/garage as is? I love that they fold up.

Dan, I do not want to hijack your post about storage...but I am interested as to how much you liked your TTC's this season? I am considering a purchase. thanks

Ed, I love them. My Opalka have grown above 8' so I need the limb support. One thing I have learned is that I will have to stake them in addition to the cages. The stems still need vertical support because the cages don't provide much of that.

I just fold them up. Put them in the shed. I have had them for 5 years.

I hang mine on long racks like you use for garden tools in the shed. 10 years and still going strong.

I squirt oil in the sockets and take them apart.
This year I will clean them up some more and squirt Ospho on the rusted areas.
I might even paint some a bright yellow.

We oil ours as we put them away in the fall. I don't usually have too much trouble unfolding the TTC in the spring but I also have some of the square stacking cages for cucumbers and they can be tough to open. We just use a bit of oil on all of them.

Gardeneer I quit buying WD-40 years ago.
I use Mineral Oil mixed with Kerosene in a spray bottle pennys on the dollar this way.

The pure mineral oil goes on my food processing equipment.

Fold up
Zip tie them in sets of 3
Put them back in original boxes and store in shed.
Love 'em
May try the lubricant

Thanks for all of your thoughts. I really appreciate it. I think I am just going to clean the dirt off them and put them in the shed for the winter.
