whats going on with juane flammee
at i dig my garden we were discussing it and i realized my (j.f.) are elongated and so we presumed that maybe it was a seed mix up.so i was reading the(our legacy of yester year varieties)off the main page and looked up jaune flammee and 3 or 4 people reported plum or elongated fruit.one person said in his green house they are oval and out side they are round.so maybe depending on the climate or soil somthing you might get round or elongated fruit.but just to be shure if anyone has jaune flammee seeds and they are for shure round i would love to give them another try as a experiment.somthing weird is going on.myconcern is i have a cross with jaune flammee and they are plum shape and if i send out seeds and they expect plum shape and it does the same thing as jf you might get round or oval and cause all kinds of problems

Probably the spelling. It sounds as if you have the Mexican version of Jaune Flamme, so why shouldn't it be elongated?
I grew Jaune Flamme 2 years ago and mine weren't perfectly round either. I hated the taste. Nasty acidic spitters, so even if it was an odd strain, I'm not very inclined to try them again. Linda |

This is the only Jaunne Flamme (s?)p that I ever knew
http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/w...e_Flamm%C3%A9e And pictured in my heirloom tomato book on page 138 which was released in 1999, and I also SSE listed it and as I always do with varieties that I think deserve larger distribution, sent seeds for trial to several seed vendors that I know well and had for many years. It was one of many new varieties that four of us got from Norbert in France in 1992, when he contacted us. We interacted so that there would be no duplicates sent and many of them are still faves today for many folks. I think Bill Minkey was one of the 4, then Joe Bratka who sent me all of his, and then Craig LeHoullier and myself. I SSE listed what I got and also what Joe got and Bill SSE listed his and I'm pretty sure Craig listed his as well. Just no time to go back to those early SSE YEarbooks that I have to check. So it appears that wrong seed has been distributed. Charley, it's not a legacy variety so I don't know what you read there, and what was your seed source? Linda, what was your seed source as well? I hate to see stuff like this happen but I suppose it's inevitable since it has happened before with other varieties. Carolyn

I don't know about shape, but size of fruit seems to vary a lot with JF. The vendors next to me at market had fruit that were cherry-sized, not saladette. That was at the end of the season, though, and could have related to growing conditions.
I'm actually going to try JF as a Sungold replacement. I have rich soil that tends to make huge plants. That's great, but one of the drawbacks is that I get smaller fruit, just because I have so many. I'm thinking JF is going to come out as a large orange cherry for me. We shall see. |

Mine came from a seed vendor. I'd rather not say who, but they are not selling JF anymore.

I'm not going to read all the comments thus far 'cuz I'm on a phone and swishing back and forth on this screen is a PITA.
BUT Juanne Flamme always has been basically egg shaped with high round shoulders and maybe a little more high round in the heat of the summer, and more egg shaped in moderate weather. This trait shape was isolated in one of my segregating lines of Jaune Flamme x Sun Gold, which to me indicates the high round/plum or what I'm calling egg shape is inherent in at least the Jaune Flamme line I got from Tomato Growers Supply Co. I've grown jaune flamme the last two years and will most likely grow it again this year. Mine are always an orange cherry type and one of the first to ripen. I get my seeds from Sustainable Seed Co, if that helps.

Are you sure it's not Verde Claro that has a yellow pear in its pedigree?

They are not on the organic side. Look under shop seeds>Vegetable Seeds>Tomatoes>Yellow/Orange.
http://sustainableseedco.com/heirloo...ato-seeds.html Oh shoot, they are out of stock. I have some extra seeds from my original packet from 2013, if you'd like to try them. Message me. Last edited by JosephineRose; February 15, 2016 at 01:31 AM. |

I have grown them for three years. They are all round for me. They are one of the first to produce and also one of the last. Size varies from a large cherry to larger than a golf ball. Color is yellow but turns orange if left for a while. No complaints about the flavor.
