Anyone ever grow this variety?

If so, what did you think of it? (taste, production, plant habit)

I'm trying to squeeze in a few extra black/purple varieties this year as they seem to jive with my taste buds.

RIK, I trialed it for SSE when it and Black Sea Man were first received by them from Marie Danilenko in Russia, who was their long time Russian contact for varieties.

Both are det with PL foliage and beefsteak type fruits.

To be frank, I didn't think much of either of them as regards taste. But then there are many who do like them, perhaps b'c they are both det, I really don't know why and hopefully others here will tell you why they like them and I don't.

To be honest, there are just a few of the so called black varieties that I've grown that I do like, though.

Thanks Dr. C,

I'm just trying to make up my mind on a few last minute seed orders.

Looks like this one won't make the list.

bigcheef,

I was interested in growing this variety also... Heard a few positive reports about the plants being productive, with tomato's of a dark red-brownish colour. Suppose to have a more acidic taste than most the other Blacks Tomato's.

Just as Carolyn stated, there are only a few Black Tomato's that I have found to be real excellent quality.
Have a variety of Black from Tula, grown for many years now, excellent taste and production. Chernomor I received in a trade with Tania, is a very nice tasting tomato, grows well, with blight resistance. Black Plum is another great tasting tomato, with a strong taste and huge production... Though Black Krim, Black Prince, Russian Black Pear and Paul Robeson, were not stand outs for me. Prefer other varieties by far...

Southern Nights, with abit more acid taste, may work for me! Love a tomato, that has a good balance of sweetness/acid/richness, a full tomato taste. Not rich and bland!
