And if I had a doxie, I'd have no chickens! Seriously, they do have a high prey drive as many hounds and terriers do. Thankfully, my labs have been successfully taught to view chickens as totally off limits. Yesterday, the 2 yo puppy girl came nose to beak with one. I told her she better back off or the chook was gonna take a chunk out of her nose.

We have two Doxies. One of them could care less about what's wandered into "her" yard. But the other one is on a constant hunt for Lizards every time she's let out.

Another busy day here at Leaping Dachshund Farms. This is how we turn the soil, who needs a rototiller when you have Tim!

Both daughters have dachshunds for a total of 3.We had a mini long hair for over 18 years. She was the best dog I ever had.Got her before we had our children. She never once snapped at the girls when they were young.Always slept right next to me with her head on my pillow. She's been gone 19 years but I still miss my Daphne.

I think some people get a dachshund not realizing what they are all about. The are very sweet little dogs but they do have a lot of energy and are as stubborn as can be. They can be trained but it's not easy they have an iron will. I'll never forget walking my first Dachshund in the neighborhood and ran into this older German woman who said, "oh a Dakel (what they call them in Germany), very cute, very stubborn" that sums it up pretty well. If you know what your getting they are really are wonderful bold little dogs.
