Texas Are You OK (Part II)
The flooding and rain looks very bad in most of Texas. You guys OK? I worry about a late frost, I guess I should not worry over such trivial things.
Add pics if possible. |

Here a couple of pictures. The first one doesn't look like much, but this is how the ground has looked since last spring. there were times when the surface would dry, but it was still soaked underneath. We live on a hill very near the top.
The second picture is the results of it staying so wet. It's our kitchen bar. That is a 2' level. |

Me too-we have had 10 inches of rain this month-7 or 8 last month. Haven't watered anything for 2 months.

Where I live we have had more than our fair share of rain. The neighborhood I live in is fine, no flooding, but there are near by neighborhoods that are flooded from the 13 inches of rain we got last Thursday and Friday. The flooding is due to the ground and creeks being saturated from the 17 or so inches of rain we had 2 or 3 weeks ago. Spring Creek is close to my neighborhood and it was supposed to crest sometime yesterday afternoon. I don't know if the roads are open today but all the roads surrounding my neighborhood was flooded and closed since last Friday. I hope the rain will hold off for a couple of weeks to give the creeks and bayous a chance to get back to normal. In Texas I don't normally complain about the rain because we are in drought conditions too often, but we have just about had enough rain for the time being.

2nd wettest Spring in Abilene. We had small hail last night. I lost some leaves and fruits, not great, but we will survive. I just don't want hail. I replaced my roof in 2011 and 2014.

We okay. Wet is better than dust (up to a point).

No power
We were without power for four days and my hydroponics suffered. Have been hand watering 3 times a day, but with no fans running and the heat in the greenhouse I'm seeing alot of blossom drop. It could be worse. Still getting alot of ripe fruit.

Almost 20 inches last week and more to come this week. Some corn was down but still harvested. Tomatoes despite the onslaught of Early Blight are hanging in there.

Still don't understand the relevance. Why is the kitchen counter sinking on one side in relationship to the rain. Can't even set an orange on that table w/o it rolling off.

We watched two local forecasts this morning one - ABC is calling for 3-5 inches of rain over the next 3 days. FOX is calling for 6-12 inches. Accuweather and NOAA are both basically saying, "Yep, it's gonna rain." |

Thank God for raised beds where I am. So much rain, but the raised beds have helped. One issue I am having because of all the rain is a lot of blossom drops. However it has had one positive impact. The tomatoes I do have are huge. I got one cherokee purple and mortage lifter that are massive...well over 1lb. This is my first year gardening and first time to grow tomatoes so I am really proud of them
