Default My 2016 Tomato Jungle

I plan on using this thread to post pics taken throughout this season, from seedlings and throughout production (including harvested fruit/tomatoes). . . and maybe even the dismantling etc at the end of the season!

Stage 1: 2016 seedlings Many were started; few were chosen
22 were grown for 7 weeks under flourescent Daylight Deluxe light bulbs (6500 K, 2750 lumens); 8 were selected for my Tomato Jungle and the rest were given (the very next day! no more plants in my livingroom!!!) to neighbors, friends and the local Senior Citizen's Center

Upload delayed . . "security token"?????evil:

Plant out: May 1
Containers/plants are crammed into the patio corner to get the maximum sun, as the shadows slowly converge to shade my entire patio (especially this early in the year).
The 8 plants are: Jasper, Siletz, Cyril'r Choice, Mountain Merit, Celebrity, Legend and 2 Defiant (for comparison, 1 in a shop bucket and 1 in an EB).

Those plants look beautiful. What is the black and yellow covering the plastic mulch in the Earthbox ones?

::blushing:: It's tape, because I cut the holes too big. . . and since I'd run out (temporarily) of my handy-dandy duct tape. . . it was all I had on hand

The 1 month “birthday”
With the sun/shade now near its summer exposure, the plants/containers take up their permanent positions.
1st row (L to R): Jasper in corner in 18” grey container, Siletz Cyril's Choice & Defiant in shop buckets
EB nearest marigolds (farthest to nearest): Legend & Defiant
EB near the middle of the patio (farthest to nearest): Celebrity & Mountain Merit

Roman, Earthbox is having a 20% off everything sale now until June 6, no code needed. That's like getting free shipping.
Your plants look wonderful.

thanks for the thought/info Ginger, but WHERE would I put another EB?

The patio is the only place where I'm allowed to have vegies (tomatoes); property management forbids anything other than short flowers in the gardening beds (hence the containers! ::evil grin:: they have no say about what, how many or how tall plants get in containers on my patio! mmwwaahh) last year, I tried to have 2 more plants/shop buckets (total of 10 tomato plants), but my patio didn't have enough area that got at least 8 hours of sun, so I had to "adopt" them out!

I see room for 1-2 more if you dont use the fancy stands. Casters themselves dont tak up much room and will give you the mobility. You can trellis using CRW surrounding it, or pea fence that you can bend the ends in on. Where there's a will....

patio square feet is larger than the patio area that gets more than 6 hours of sun, thanks to the converging shadows of my house and the hedge-and-tree on the side!!
