Tomato ID ?

I'm thinking this tomato variety is one of the bumblebees. The pack I got the seed from says Wisconsin 55. So somewhere along the way - you know.

The taste is more sweet than acidic, but near balanced. A good tasting tomato that I would like to know the identity of. I want to grow it again.

I don't know if this helps you or not. I grew purple bumble bee along with the other bees and tigers from artisan tomatoes in 2014. Here is a pic I took of purple bumble bee. Looks different from yours to me.

I agree that it has that sheen that the Bumble Bee tomatoes have. I would guess Pink Bumble Bee since it doesn't have as many stripes as Sunrise Bumble Bee looks like it has in the pictures.

It could just be a coincidence, though. There are other tomatoes (usually striped ones) with that sheen, too.

It has gotten darker since I picked it.

I have Pink, Purple, and Sunrise Bumblebee growing near it - they aren't ripe yet. Whatever it is - is a week or more earlier DTM than the Bumblebees.

Salt got the seeds from me. My Wisconsin 55 seeds weren't saved but from my pack I had purchased. So I am perplexed. The most logical explanation is a stray seed. I have grown Purple Bumblebee in 2014, it can be hard to distinguish tomato color in photos but that is what it most closely resembles. Although I do wonder how that would got in because I didn't grow that variety this year. I also grew Ron's Carbon Copy last year but that doesn't look like that.

Salt and I have exchanged PMs, I think he may post more pictures. Nothing else I've grown fits these tomatoes otherwise.

Were the "WI55" and Purple Bumblebee started at the same time?

Do the plants look the same in terms of leaf and habit? IIRC Purple Bumblebee were fairly bushy plants for me--although that can vary a lot with different soil, etc.

Do the two varieties have the same number of sepals on each fruit? I don't know if that is a heritable, predictable trait or not.

I'll send you some real Wisconsin 55 seed as well. Glad you're at least enjoying these tomatoes!

The Purple Bumblebees were started January 17. The ones I got from you were started on February 9th.

5 sepals on these and 6 on the Purple Bumblebees.

The leaves look the same. Both plants are growing stunted. They were growing well until it started raining daily 3 weeks ago.

Maybe it's not Purple Bumblebee then. Hmmmm. The thing is I never have grown anything else like what you show. Is it possible the seed pack I bought had a stray seed? Color me confused.
