Orange Slice
I grew a few Orange Slice hybrids last year and liked that they were all the same size and shape and also tasted good. I planted some more F1's and F2 seeds from last year. F2's are twice as big and I actually like the F2 taste better. Wonder what the F3's will turn out like?

Looks like dehybridizing is fun.

They are beautiful and look like my favorite, Kelloggs Breakfast! How do they compare in taste?
I grew a bunch of orange in spring and none of them came close to KB. |

The taste is like KBX which may be one of the parents of this hybrid. My KBX didn't do very well this year so far, but the F2 Orange Slice did very well.

Thanks for replying.
I checked out Orange Slice (found at Burpee.com) and your F2s look better and more like KB / KBX than your F1s or Burpee pictures. |

Yesterday I cut up 8 varieties and took them to my local watering hole and had 10 people do a taste test. They picked the 3 best and rated them 1st,2nd,3rd... Here's how it came out:
KBX ( 1,1,1,1,2,2,2) Lucid Gem ( 1,1,2,2,3,3,3) Souix ( 1,1,2,3) Orange Slice F2 (2,2,3,3) Momotaro (3,3,3) Marianna's Peace (1,1) Orange Slice F1 (2,2) Big Zac F2 (3) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Just wanted to update;
I am growing 2 Orange Slice F2 plants; one in an EB, the other in a Root Pouch. Both very productive with the edge in productivity going to the one in the Root Pouch. They are starting to turn color and will probably be my first big tomato ready to eat. There are 30+ tomatoes already on that one plant. Florida is having an amazing fall season; everyone is doing great. Weather has been very cooperative. Even Kelloggs Breakfast has set more tomatoes to date than my best season growing it. Have you grown out the F3s? I think I will be eating one in the next few weeks so I can start F3 seeds for spring. |

Nice pictures! Glad fruit set is good for you as well. Haven't really found a good/ high acid yellow/orange tomato yet. KB was kind of mushy for my taste and didn't grow it again. Materman gave me seeds several years back for Jim Dandy. Pretty good fruit set and more acid taste than sweet. I'm growing Aunt Gertie's this season and Brandywine Yellow Platfoot strain. I like the combination of yellow and red tomatoes when I make salsa. Any high acid yellow or orange tomatoes..let me know.
