Can garden tone be mixed in water and used as a tea?
I have some garden tone, can I make a tea out of it?When I planted my tomato seedlings I put some in the hole with cotton seed meal.I have very nice looking plants with plenty of green tomatoes.I have straw mulch down and my plants are very full inside their cages. It would be very hard to scratch into the soil with them being so bushy and trying to get in between the plants.

Maybe you could lift the mulch and sprinkle some Tone there.
I tried to dilute Tomato Tone by putting it in a watering can and filling it with water, but there were lots of minerals that did not dissolve left in the bottom of the watering can..... Linda |

I might do that,It's like a hedge the plants are so wide.It says you should scratch it into the top 5 inches of soil.I have branches sticking out with tomatoes and don't want to break them off the vine.I'm very happy with my production so far.Just need more rain.

I would leave well enough alone if they look good and are growing unless you just do as Linda said.
Disturbing the top 5 inches of soil will do more harm than good. You should still have the cotton seed meal breaking down and if anything they might need nitrogen a little later. You can do that with fish fertilizer or something. Worth |

That's good advice,I have been putting the coffee grounds every morning around the plants and been putting the filters under the straw.I thought about disturbing the roots.I just leave the coffee grounds on top of the soil.Last thing I would want to dois mess things up.Thanks Worth and Labradors2.

If you have earthworms they will come up and feed on the coffee grounds.
We used to feed ours cornmeal and a few table scraps. There used to be a lady we called the worm lady she lived in an old house and must have been over 80 years old that sold fishing worms this is what she fed them. We would walk up the the front door and knock. She would come to the door and we would say, we come to get some fishen worms. You gotta bucket and some dirt? Yep. Meet me around back by the shed. I have plenty of worms, but with the straw being 4 to 6 inches deep I don't know if they are getting the grounds.I throw the grounds under the tomato plants and the filters under the straw.I'm almost out of cottonseed meal.I just might spread what's left of that under the straw. When I planted my tomato plants,I dug holes into my cover crop added cottonseed meal and garden tone.Had plenty of worms in the garden.Going no till has been great for worm population.

Organic solid fertilizers are best to be worked into soil. But you can sprinkle them too. I had some Bone Meal ( Phosphorus source) left and I just wanted to finish it all up. So I sprinkled it on the top and watered. I know it is not going to be readily available to the plants but eventually it will be as I keep watering the beds.
