More North Star red peppers!!
A great year for peppers!! The North Star bell peppers are really turning a beautiful red as they fully ripen. The peppers are large and with these 3 I picked today it makes 11 peppers from 3 North Star plants with at least another 1/2 dozen that are full grown but just starting to go from green to red. So pleased with the results of the North Star variety, its a plant I'll be growing from now on. The California Wonder are nice but the North Star yield & growth are better suited to the upper Mid West climate.

North Star is a hybrid (unfortunately). I grew it last year for the first time, and thought that production was great and that the flavour was fabulous. It knocked California Wonder right out of the water! I'm growing it again this year, but I don't have any red ones yet.

Labradors2, It took a while for them to change over the peppers were fully developed and I could have picked em as green peppers but when they fully mature they take on the red color and are a very sweet pepper. the side of the pepper exposed to direct sunlight turn red first and in about a week the whole pepper turns. But I could have picked em 2 wks ago... The wife said NO!!

I'm happy to wait too. They are much sweeter when they turn red .

Nice pics. My experience has been that hybrid bells are the way to go, at least if you want a big "grocery store" bell pepper. I have never had good luck with OP bell varieties.

Thanks for posting pics and your experiences with North Star. Working on my list for next year, especially for sweet bells and gonna add it to my list.
