Default Sakharnyi Zheltyi

Anybody growing it ? I am growing it for the first season.
Thanks to RJG, for donating the seeds. I figured if it can thrive in Calgary , Canada it should do fine in PNW US. And it does.

Today I pick the first one at color break . I did not want to take a chance on it by leaving it on the vine any longer . Weighing 11.4 oz.

Bottom view.

It will take a few days to see the color. I will keep you posted.

This Russian CV usually have quite big fruit up to 1 kg with sugary pulp.

The name means "Yellow Sugary" in Russian. A bit too sweet for me, I like more on the acid side.

Andrey, I am growing another yellow Rissian variety that is on the acidid/tangy side: It is AZOYCHKA. I have already harvested a ripe one, sitting on the counter.

see the picture. The red ones are Silvery Fir Tree, the first to ripen in my garden.

Azoychka is a favorite in our family, mine are still hanging on the vine and i'm telling them to hurry up and get yellow...

Very nice citrus-y undertones, fresh and still not too tart.

SZ looks lovely!

Azochka as we called it here where it came from to you is quite good of course, but it is not so popular as in USA/Canada.

Andrey: Do you know why? Is it because it came from a amateur breeder via an ordinary woman and not from a well-known seed company? I think it's a shame if it's not appreciated in CIS as much as in the West, - just my biased opinion

I think that Azochka is gaining popularity, as I can tell from the number of the members here and other sites that are growing it. I , myself, tried KB/KBX and did not like it but I am glad to have found Azochka. It does real well in my climate. Same is true about SZ , though I have yet to taste it.

It is not maintained and distributed by seed companies as many other tomato varieties you know well over the world. Probably they have enough others varieties thousand of them... Should I send Azochka seeds to Sibirskiy Sad or Aelita? Probably as a 2017 New Year gift

Yes Andrey, that would be a great idea
Send them some seeds with a message, 'Please begin mass production of Azochka seeds, so people in the West can order them from you on-line'

Seriosly: I like the story behind it and am grateful that it found its way to the West and became such a well-loved tomato, even though it's not so popular in its country of origin. Az is such a well-adapted variety, it survives our crazy changeable weather, and is usually not bland.
Given so many great yellow and orange varieties and new ones hitting the markets every year, I am not sure if any large company would be open to the idea... but it would be worth considering, such a lovely variety should not be forgotten.

Andrey, did the companies ever offer Az under the other name? wasn't it called Zolotoy Borago at one time?

If SZ grows well in Seattle, perhaps it would do well here too. One day ... although I'm not so crazy about yellows as I am about pinks

Narian, our PNW weather is very unique. Even when the day highs get into 85 to 92F range the night lows will drop to 56 to 62F. Also we have a very low humidity.
Another observation: Most dark tomatoes like CP, BFT , IS ... out performing F1 red varieties. Silvery Fir Tree is an exception.

Yes, about 12 years ago I've found out that Zolotoy Borago and Azochka are the same variety. But they are both only distributed by amateur gardeners in CIS.
