Black Beauty
Just wondering if anyone has grown Black Beauty before? I have some seeds and just thought I'd ask.

This tomato is considered the darkest known in the world. In fact, it is so "blue" that it looks black. No special problem to grow it. I also like the taste.
You can see more details here (asking the help of Google translation) http://www.rosiidingradina.ro/negre/black-beauty

I have grown it and it is the darkest tomato I have grown to date. For me, the flavor was just good not great. It was a very prolific producer but the plant has a mind of its own. It would grow upward then sideways then downward.

It seems to be part of a series of Beauty tomatoes from Wild Boar Farms. You might also check out Red Beauty (which is a beefsteak), Blue Beauty, and Beauty King. Black Beauty comes from a cross between Pink Berkeley Tie-dye and Indigo Apple. I added the links so you can see information about the varieties. I grew it this year. It was very dark in color, not a great producer and not a taste that was to my liking. It won't be back. There are too many other good tasting tomatoes.

Indigo Rose don't really have much taste, but if you can let it ripe for a long time on the vine, unfortunately that's not possible in some area, but Arizona should be good, then it does have some sweetness and unique fruity flavor to it, however, it also means the fruit might become too soft. You want the fruit to lose more of the purple and become red as possible before picking.
Now Black Beauty to me is was very sweet (after a long time of ripening) and so I'm growing it again, but it didn't produce very well last time. |

PureHarvest's Black Beauty Grow Diary
Isabelle's Black Beauty thread As a side note, phpBB forums have terrible search functions. I usually search the site in Google. Type: site:tomatoville.com keywords here into the Google search box (where "keywords here" = what you're searching for). Much more effective way to search. |
