Tomato baskets for market
Looking for some input on 2 projects. My girlfriend at the farm has been putting together pint and 2-pint baskets of cherry tomatoes to sell farmgate and through her brother's village grocery store. (I keep her and her family in tomato, pepper and eggplant seedlings as payment/lease of the acreage).
Anyhoo, I would like suggestions for good PINK cherries please. Lady Carolyn Pink and Pearly Pink have been good. Any others worth trying? Also any oranges (true orange) other than Mini Orange? Running already with Snow White, Black Cherry, Green Grape, Galina's, Red Pear, Yellow Pear, Rideau Sweet, Sweet Million OP, Cherry Roma, Amish Salad, Chelsea Sweet OP. Now, Andrea wants to try mixed 6-quart baskets of slicers. Colourful, colourful and roughly all the same size, ~6-8 oz slicer types--small enough for salad but large enough for sammies and burgers. Pretty, not lumpy beefsteaks. She's out to convert (my girl!!). Thinking: Earl of Edgecombe June Pink Burgess Lemon (probably only me who knows this one...for now) White Queen Golden Queen Black from Tula?? Grosse Lisse Well, getting my brain in gear on this one has been a challenge. Please make suggestions. Taste is critical but not the only factor here. These will be selling/sold to the hybrid community in farm country. Cherries have been a smash hit 2 years running now. What about a Ping Pong ball-sized variety pack? Pink Ping Ping, Yellow Ping Pong, Green Gage, Tingerella ??? Lost now... Thanks for feedback!!!! Jennifer |

For a great sweet cherry try Sun Sugar (hybrid) we love it and so do our friends. They usually all get eaten in the garden and never make it to the house here. I get my seed from Tomato Growers Supply.

Thanks for the responses, folks.
D, Brandysweet Plum is a bit big for the cherry boxes...but maybe the Ping Pong box...hmmm (thump to head for forgetting one of my pet varieties) Yes, I realize about Sungold and the others being good, but we're OP seed savers through and through. Plus Andrea's captain of this region's National Farmer's Union chapter. Ra, ra family farm; less enthusiasm for corporate seed, I'm afraid. Thanks for reminding about Cherokee Purple, one of Andrea's faves. Maybe Cherokees Chocolate and Green for additional colour. Yes, much better than B from Tula as a selection. Love Stump, but it's not picture perfect looks-wise unfortunately. Will have to try Craig's Luckies again. Last year was a right-off. Converting people one mouthful and/or stomach at a time... Jennifer, who's reminded to ponder her Canucks as well |

For the second group, the medium ones, how about Eva Purple Ball?

While not a cherry you might want to think about Thai Pink Egg. It’s a beautiful pink with hints of white grape tomato. For me it was a very heavy producer with a natural, sweet rich taste.

Arkansas Traveler is another medium-sized, uniform pink to consider.
