Cherokee Carbon....experiences?
Growing this right now. I was intrigued by the cross between two "black" tomatoes. Dear husband's favorites are Black Krim and Cherokee Purple. Also growing Black Russian for the first time.
Has anyone tried Cherokee Carbon? Donna, zone 9, where it is chilly with the proverbial leaden skies today |

I grew it last year in the hot, hot desert of Las Vegas, Nv. I really liked it, but have not had the opportunity to taste other blacks. It was fairly early too. I would recommend it. If I can grow it here, I would think you could grow it anywhere.

Last year it under performed Paul Robeson a notch for yield and flavor in our patch, and tolerated gray mold about the same. It is getting another chance this year, but it is not yet a favorite.

Cherokee Carbon
Thanks for the responses. The plant already has flower buds on it. I'm growing it in a large pot.

Growing it now but only about 10 inches tall. Grew from seed just fine. Will post updates as we go.

Just wanted to chime in on this hybrid. I picked up two plants a while back and planted on March 7th. Both of them are around 4ft tall now and both have close to 20 tomatoes. So far this tomato is ahead of all other tomatoes in my garden....second being Garden Treasure.

Look at that ugly tomato!! It's from the cold but it should taste good.
I'm growing it too so time will tell. I just put mine in dirt.

I grew it last summer. More productive than CP and just as good in flavor. I got fruit in N Dallas till mid July. Good tomato, but the shape and size are widely varied. Lots of cat facing too. So it was an ugly tomato, but really tasty

Ozone, I agree with you except I didn't have much if any cat facing.
One of my most productive plants. Taste was outstanding too. I will take a CP over it still. There's something about a good CP that blows everything else away for me. lol Big, tall, good looking plant. Stayed healthy for the most part. Great production. Beautiful dark color inside. Had a little longer shelf life than CP. All around a good tomato for me here in Charlotte NC. Only grew one last year, growing two this season! Greg |
