Tastywine Seedling not PL
I started seeds for about 27 varieties on March 17, four seeds each. Today I went to pot up and discovered that one of my Tastywine seedlings has regular rugrose leaves instead of potato leaves.
That's a 25% result. Is that expected? I will grow out both of course! Purchased the seed this season from one of the Dwarf project's authorized retailers. I would have assumed it was a stray seed until I realized that it too is a dwarf as all four plants have rugrose foliage. If it's a stray, it's a dwarf stray. |

Regular leaves are dominate over potato leaves. The 25% would be going the other way (from Regular to Potato - in the F2 generation).
Your seedling could be a stray or an F1 cross with another dwarf parent. If you save seeds from it, and grow them next year and you then get 25% Potato leaves from the Regular leaf tomato plant, then you're dealing with a cross. Make sense? |

Yes. I will do so.
I have to admit, I kind of love it when these little surprises happen. |

The one that is growing different is the one I would be most interested in.

To piggyback on conversation. I have started more than a dozen of For exhibition plants and about 25% of them came up PL. Plants of last year were not growing next to PL varieties. Question is- my RL seedlings still true to name? It is rare variety from Tanya and I really love it. Great salad tomato.

Thanks! I will def check with Tanya.
Variety I am growing this year is For exhibition, got it last year from Tanya and have grown last year, collected my own seeds and started this year. Only to find out that 25% of them came as PL. There were no PL varieties grown in close proximity last year so this cross? is surprise. I am questioning if RL seedlings are still good ones, i.e. true to type. http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/For_Exhibition |
