Wood ashe (50-100 g in a hole) for extra Potassium, Phosforus, Magnium and Calcium in the soil.

I'm going to try some wood ash, then drop a few pellets of Osmocote with a coffee can of MG potting soil (which they were germinated in).

If blue gills are biting, and I catch a bunch of small ones, one goes in each hole also.

In my first year garden with sandy soil i added some pine bark fine, peat and aged horse manure , to improve moisture retention. I have already amended the soil with wood ash.
With established garden, I would not add/put anything in the hole but the plant.

Last year I added some Black Kow, a little Epsom Salt and Tomato Tone in the bottom of the hole and back filled.

My garden has adequate nutrients in the soil already (per my soil test) so adding anything to the hole would be adding something that my plants really don't need. I may top dress with some blood meal for nitrogen later when they are actively growing.

I do a handful of tomato tone, bone meal, ground eggshells, dolomite lime and worm castings. I call it my "stinky stuff".

Kelp, azomite, mycos.
Soil has been adjusted with gypsum, sulfur, manganese, boron and table salt prior as per soil test recommendations.
Will add small amount of calcium nitrate and MAP in a fisrt week as plants are going into cooler weather into WOW system.

I prep my soil first by digging in compost, crushed or chopped kelp, a little bit of dolomite lime. And even some chicken manure pellets if I have them.
And then I mix about 7 oz of bone meal into each hole for my tomato plants.
And I still need to feed them after they start to ripen their fruit! If not they start losing their leaves.

I'm interested in using wood ashes but didn't know how much, thanks for the tip Andrey. It is a great source of potassium, and free.

Here with pH over 7 no ashes can be added. I can not help but wonder why people prefer dolomitic lime. I am taught it is inferior product and mostly only calcitic lime to be used.
