I noticed this weed and am wondering what it is?

Milkweed! Food plant of the Monarch butterfly. The pink flowers are very fragrant

The first person to look at it knew. We have a lot of monarch butterflies visiting. The seeds look really cool floating in the air.

THere are so many milk weeds. Lettuce is one.
Once I grow an ornamental, nick named Hairy Ball (lol) . Some caterpillars loved it. So did aphids.

There are many plants that exude a milky white substance from their stems, but lettuce and mildweed are NOT related. They are from very different Latin families. Lettuce is in the lactuca family and milkweed is an Asclepias. There is no relation what so ever.

Milkweed is actually one of the last things a cow will eat before starving. In a way, milkweed is LSD for cattle. http://articles.extension.org/pages/54927/milkweed

I agree with missS... but I will tell you if you ever get stung by a bee... honey or wasp... if you can find anything the produces a healthy flow of "milk" it is the BEST pain and inflammation reliever you can find. its only drawback is the latex-like substance is better than gorilla glue.... for attracting and holding dirt to that spot. just allow the "milk" to well up and dab it on.
