Which slicers/beefsteaks have a tropical or melon taste?
Looking to grow slicer and beefsteak heirlooms that have a more tropical/pineapple/ambrosial/melon taste. I recently tried Pineapple tomato and Hawaiian Pineapple tomato which have that flavor. Any others you recommend that fall into that category?

I think quite a few bicolour tomatoes could be described as fruity.
Serendipity, Oxacan jewel, Dagmas perfection are 3 I would recommend. Also the white beefsteaks you may wish to try, they tend to be sweet some describe a fruity or melon flavour. White tomesol, great white are examples. KarenO |

Karen, thanks. I forgot to add to my original post that I'm not looking for tomatoes with a overly tart flavor. Any of those that you mentioned have that? I thought I read somewhere that Dagma's perfection is somewhat tart.

Not in my garden.
I find most bicolours tend toward sweet. Some very sweet. Everyone is different though, just have to try them yourself to know. KarenO |

So true since not everyone tastes the same tomato the same way and there are actually human genes that play a part in taste, and not just tomatoes, and each of us have some of those genes. Carolyn

Virginia Sweets if very similar to Hawaiian Pineapple in coloring and flavor. I tried Ananas Noire and found to have a very sweet but tangy flavor that I love. Another one that surprised me with its melon like sweetness this season was Orlov Yellow, which is not yellow but orange. Excellent flavor.

Thanks. It's interesting, when I had my mother taste the Hawaiian pineapple tomato, she didn't think it was a tomato, she thought it was melon. |

Along with Virginia Sweets and Orange Russian 117, several other bi-colors have that citrusy/fruity flavor including Hillbilly, Lennie and Gracie's Kentucky Heirloom, Old Flame and some oranges and yellows that I can't think of right off hand.

I just looked at my notes from the two years I grew Virginia Sweets, and I described it as being "rich and sweet with bite." That's about the same as I would describe a ripe pineapple. Without the bite (acid), I would describe both as bland, which is how most melons taste to me.
I'm growing Orange Minsk Heart this year which I would describe as fruity, with an almost floral aroma. I see it described as sweet (to me, it's bland), but my husband, who loves melons, loves this tomato. |

Malakhite box is very fruity for me, also I am growing one that I named/ translated as Yellow clusters, well it is a orange beef, it has very melony texture, as in juicy but not running juicy. I like it a lot and have shared seeds on T'ville.
