Just venting

Out of town,I asked hubby to water the seedlings today. I apparently cooked them. I didn’t open the vent on the greenhouse,plus left the space heater on and it didn’t turn off like it should.
They are all gone,two big flats,tomatoes,eggplants and peppers. I was planning to plant them Monday when I get back from my conference.
Argh!

I am SOOOO sorry! UGH UGH UGH !

Try not to beat yourself up. Just go to the garden center on Monday- do the best you can with what they have... OR are you close to Craig LeHouillier- I know he sells some of his starts at markets! Maybe you can buy some of his!

That's just awful to hear! Hope you can replace the majority in time for planting out and still have a good garden year.

How heart-breaking! I know that you feel devastated right now, but you can purchase some new plants. Heck, if I am starting seeds for me now this year, you can start some more too. You will just have a late season like us northern folks. It will work out. Gardeners preserver... There is always a way.

Wow, so sorry to hear this!!! I would probably head down to the nearest garden center and get a head start. Then sow some new seeds and get a late harvest too! All the best to you!!

. So sorry, gosh that's truly sad! Have yourself a good cry (I know I would), then resolve to begin again. Even if it does mean purchasing plants somewhere. You can still have a great season!

Thanks everyone,I really appreciate the kind words.
I think I live pretty far from Craig although I was up at a dog show there a couple of weeks ago.
I have a dog show in Lumberton next weekend and this weekend I’m at a medical conference. I have Monday and Tuesday to recuperate and plant the garden.
If I can get a few tomatoes and peppers from Lowe’s I can replant my seeds and be a little late. If we have a litttle cooler summer it could be a good thing since I might miss peak stink bug season.
I’m just bummed,I had a lot of varieties planted and was right on schedule for a change.
The hot peppers like datil and habaneros I’ll replant since I’ll never find them around here. Same with the eggplant varieties. I may be able to find an Anaheim variety and jalapeños,plus a regular black beauty eggplant.
I need to figure out how to put the vent opener with thermostat on my greenhouse.

You can buy plants and you can re-seed to make a shorter season. Have a garden, one way or another!

Oh,I will definitely have a garden. Plus,all the things that can be direct sown right now.
Matt’s wild cherry will come back as a volunteer,too.
I’ll replant what I had started,maybe just adjust a little to more peppers and eggplants,less tomatoes. I should be doing that anyway since they do better and aren’t as bothered by stink bugs.

You could sow super-early tomatoes now (Russians, maybe); they'd be ready pretty quickly. I'm sure someone has seeds...

I've had (not-) venting catastrophe before, but with big plants so they survived and just exploded some fruit. Always hard to know when to open or close if you're going to be away...

I feel your pain. I have lost plants to faulty thermostats before, too.
