Recipients of the Altai Orange Seeds
For those who received seeds from the batch which came to me from Steve in Norway, I did a "damp paper towel in a ziplock" germination test and got 10 for 10 after 5 days. No one should have any problems with the ones you received.
I'd like to commend Steve for showing his real concerns in this matter. He did not hesitate to come forward and immediately began to call the shots on trying to alert folks that he felt he had a problem with germination percentages below what he gets normally. I think he cares. So, plant your seeds and get ready for a big tomato. Besides, getting 10/10 is what we all dream of every year.

I started two seeds on damp paper towel 7 days ago. Both had germinated and were potted up today.
Thanks again Ted and Steve . Linda |

Thanks, Ted. My concerns turned out to be a false alarm. Most of my other varieties had germinated, but Altai Orange (aka Altaiskiy Oranzhevyi) lagged behind, in spite of being on a heat mat. I finally got 8/9 when the last three sprouted after 9 days.
As a note of interest, I once had only one seed of a variety sprout after a whole month. It was only kept watered because it was in a flat with other varieties. I had even subjected the flat to "the cold treatment": http://www.tomatoville.com/showthrea...cold+treatment . The seeds were obviously quite old. Saved seeds from this variety, Rosado de Ayerbe, have since shown nearly 100% germination. The Altai Orange seeds are from last season. There seem to be some varieties that are slow to germinate. I've also experienced this with Sakharnyi Pudovichok. Steve |

Steve, I would rather alert folks 100 times and find out the problem wasn't as bad as thought, than to not alert folks and find out the danged seeds were failing.
You are in the group at the top of my class act list, my friend. I have ended up with 6 plants of "Altai Orange". And, I've already given away six plants to family. Take care, y'all.

I just planted 2 of the 3 huge ones in the high tunnel. Leaving one more for outside and the last is a way late starter and is pretty little yet.It will grow I am sure.
