Default Dotson's Garden 2020

I sowed seeds today, and I'm excited to try both new varieties recommended by others, and also some of the top 100 from Carolyn's book. New for me are Opalka, Zogola, German Red Strawberry, Reif Red Heart, Cuostralee, and Chocolate Stripes. I'm also trying for the first time Goat Bag and Curtis Cheek, from Renaissance Farms. I'm hoping that all of you have a great tomato spring and summer!!!

Good for you, I have to wait to start the warm weather stuff yet, so I am jealous, LOL!! But I will be starting some directly seeded garden peas this week, so hopefully that will ease the garden itch a little.

Darin! Great to see you posting! What is that last item on your list, pistachio tree? Really? Is that the name of a tomato?

Ha! No Nan, these are actually pistachio trees. I wanted to try to grow them, although I know that our weather is iffy regarding its survival. I just labeled them in the seed tray.

BTW, I'm growing POS this year, but I was wondering what you think of Post Office Runt- worth growing? If so, I'd love to have a few seeds!!

Thanks!

Darin

With the early Spring, I got the babies in the ground. I used dried rabbit manure in the bottom of each hole, and also tilled in with the soil and peat moss. I laid down film for weed control and help keep the moisture in during these hot months. Varieties planted are pretty much like my original list, with a few additions. I am growing:

Terhune (competition PL from Mariseeds)
Rebel Yell
Zogola
Stick
German Red Strawberry
Girl Girl's Weird Thing
Not Purple Strawberry
Chocolate Stripes
Reif Red Heart
Curtis Cheek
Faelan's First Snow
Opalka
Cuostralee
Green Gables
Goat Bag
Zena's Gift

I am also growing a micro dwarf called "Curley Kaley" from Curtis Jackson at Renaissance Farms.

May we all have a blessed growing year!!

Darin, I'm so sorry; I just saw your question!

Post Office Runt tastes identical to Post Office Spoonful. The fruit is smaller, and the whole plant is a little smaller than POS. I find picking the Runt fruit to be tedious. It's adorable, though.

My mother asked me to pick an all-around good tomato variety for her, and DLH came to mind, so I'm growing one for her.

Lucky duck, with pistachio trees!

Nan

Nan, thanks again for growing DLH. No worries on the Runt, I have plenty of distractions with my grow list. I'll start posting more often on my progress, trying to put the past behind me.

Pulled my first Goat Bag tomato today, it's the largest tomato I've ever grown. Feels like a 3 pounder at least. Also, Curly Kaley is a dwarf cherry that looks just fantastic so far- leaves like leather.

Some weights and cut pictures of Goat Bag. The flavor is oustanding, but almost no seeds! I'm naming one of these fruit as "Goat Butt", you will know which one

The large double weighs 2 lbs, 13 oz. and the single weighs 1 lb, 15 oz.
