pruning tomato plants

how much can you prune a tomato plants ..... i have 24 plants set 5 ft apart , i use concrete wire for cages a little over 2 ft in diameter ...... my plants typically will grow to 6 to 7 feet tall but as they grow branches will grow out the sides of the cages creating a jungle in the garden . Many of these branches end up damaged or broken anyway so i am thinking about pruning them when they first grow out the side ...... anyone have experience or advice on pruning tomato plants
