I don't like to eat okra, but I grow the plants for the beautiful flowers and then give the pods to someone else. I got my first open blossom this morning, too.

Cool! I haven't even sown mine yet! We finished off the last jar of pickled okra last night. (Note to self: Pickle MORE okra this year!)

I am growing 2 varieties this year...It has been 20 years since I have grown Okra and forgotten what a lovely plant it is...I too love Okra pickles and have nice transplants waiting to go out, so I am hopeful !

Mine is only about two inches tall right now and my neighbor's peach tree is shading it a little more than I'd like. I bought some fresh okra at the farm stand last week and fried it up along with some crab cakes. Yum!!

Yawl talkin bout how lovely the okra bloom is , for those that don't know it is kin to the mallow/hibiscus plant.
Thus the reason for it's beauty.8) Compare the plants and see for your selves. Worth |
