Hey Ami,
To be honest, I had a hard time even tasting BTD Heart. It is a fascinating tomato to grow and in many ways it's quite beautiful. That said, I had a tough time with it's appearence and eating it. I did taste it and it wasn't bad but I couldn't enjoy it at all and I did not eat anymore than a taste. My opinion on the taste of this one shouldn't count at all. My eyes could see it's beauty but my mind couldn't process that beauty with great taste in a tomato. Kalmans is really good and has a sweet flavor to me. Don't know yet if I love it or not. Tim

NCTIM, give Berkeley Tie-Dye Heart an honest flavor trial.
Two things I like about it- far cry from a round red tomato and, super meaty with a bold tomato flavor,(as described by a high payed culinary expert, not me) but I agree. Try a blind folded taste if your mind says it's not a tomato. |

What is BTD Heart- I have never heard of it before, is it a recent addition, I am growing the standard BTD which is a different shape altogether- is BTD Heart one of Brad's creations

Hey Brad,
I will do as you ask and give it another go. I like your Large Barred Boar and was hoping to try Black Heart but it fell to disease early on. I think Beauty King is another one of yours that I'm growing this year. Tim

Oops, sorry Michael I meant to answer you too. Yes BTDH is one of Brads creations. Seed was offered here last fall and I was grateful to get some.

Ami, This is my first time growing carbon. I have had the seed for 3 years but it never made the final cut for space in the garden. This year I decided not to plant Cherokee Purple and to grow Carbon and Gary O'sena. Sometime this evening I believe I will pick the first of both.
Carbon is a regular leaf indeterminate thats very similar to CP and many rave about its taste. It is a somewhat productive plant with nice size tomatoes. The DTM is going to be around 67 days for me. Thats really all I know. I will try to post some more pics of each. Tim

Hi, Tim - long time, no see! I'm also growing BTDH this year, but I'm not getting the heart shape (stability issues, perhaps?)
Plant is very productive, and flavor is good. Several people at the SETTFest really liked it. BTD Heart (the greener ones in the basket aren't dead ripe) |

In the next week or two I will be harvesting from 144 plants of BTD Heart.
This will be my third year growing it from a seed saved from a freak plant the year before. (F-4) As far as I can tell it is a mutant as it has been 95-100% stable since the first year. I came close to releasing it this year but decided to wait and see one more year. Most of my fruits are a lobbed and lobbed hearts off the same plant. Suze, yours look extra meaty and lobbed but no point or blunt tips at all. Hmmmm. Wispy foilage? Should be. The only variation last year was a green flesh instead of pink on one plant out of 72 wich I did save seeds seperatelely. I will assume your seeds came from last years Norcatt. Brad........ |
