Default The Grapes of Wrath

I have tried to grow Sungold the past few years. Because of the lack of space and sunlight, the end result has been pathetic.

This year I decided to try out smaller Green Grape. I started a few seedlings and planted them in a sunnier spot. I also started a few Sungold seedlings for a friend since I did not want them anymore.

My Green Grapes are growing wild and setting lots of fruit. Unfortunately they really tasted lousy.

Just when I was about to pull all the Green Grapes out to make room for other things, I discovered why the Green Grapes tasted so dreadful!

Hiding under a lot of leaves was a nice bunch of golden orange fruits. They tasted sweet and delicious!

Apparently the labeling of the seedlings got mixed up, what I thought were Green Grapes were in fact Sungolds, and I had been trying to eat green Sungolds.

I better call my friend and tell him not to wait until his “Sungolds” turn color.

'The Grapes of Wrath' or the 'The Sungold Also Rises.'

So did the Sungolds taste any better this time?

Now that is funny! I tried Green Grape this year. Put about 20 seeds to germinate and got close to 100% germination. Over time, though, one plant here and one there of the 100+ we started died. When I went to put them in the ground I discovered that apparently every plant that died was Green Grape. Just one lonely plant on the top of the hill.

Hahahhahaha... that is too funny... my Green Grapes turn amber.... but thanks for the heads up on the green Sungolds.

BTW: In my worst spot I grew Sungold last year and it was great and very prolific; only problem was it was rangey and lanky and t-a-l-l.

It was not that funny!
I had thought Green Grape was a small plant. So when I saw my " Green Grapes" growing wild and tasted funny, I spent hours researching the growing habits of GG to see if this was normal.
Finally I came to the conclusion that my soil must be completely out of balance. It must have way too much N. I designed a whole program to overhaul the patch and purchased new topsoil to revamp the patch once I pull all the “GG” out.
