Gigant 10 Novakova

Here is a few shots of the Toms on Gigant I'm growing in my surrogate patch at work and it is loading up. Can't wait for them to ripen so I can get a taste.

Gigant-10 Novikova can bear you real monsters up to 1 kg, but usually in 200-500 g scale. Novikov is a surname of the Russian breeder-enthusiast who used to develope new OP large-fruited tomato varieties in USSR.

Hi,

Obtained these seeds and others thru Andrey in a trade.
Grew Gigant Novikova-10 last season, and few friends are growing this season. This plant really can get large and produce loads of tomato's. Average size were 8-10 oz(200-300g), though a few can get as large as 2 lbs+. We had one large tomato last year that weighed 1150 g(around 2 1/2 pounds).

Gigant Novikova-10 needs multi staking with strong posts.
Large thick main stalk attained close to 5 cm. Many people are amazed with the growth characteristics and size. Warning!!! This plant can produce too many tomato's...

Randy, your right about multi staking. I drove two eight foot pipes into the ground spaced 1 foot from the main stalk on each side just to support it. Its a tomato machine. Randy what did yours taste like? Ami

Hi Ami and Andrey,

This tomato is very tasty, a full tomato taste with abit of sweetness, not too much tanginess. A perfect tomato to slice and place on a sandwich, also great for making sauces.

Andrey and Randy,

Is Giant10 Novikova the same as Novokov's Giant? I am growing a Novikov's giant from Randy's seed and if I seem to recall it is a potato leaf. Ami's pick seems to look like regular leaf?

Hi Alex,

Yes, the variety is the same!
Gigant-10 Novikova is the true name...

My first grow of this variety produced two potato leaf and one regular. Though the plants grew similiar, same tomato's, same taste... Though the potato leaf ones produced more overall.

If you have a potato leaf plant of Gigant-10 Novikova consider yourself lucky. The seeds I got from the plants last year only produced one potato leaf plant out of 25 plants. Those plants are super growers with friends this season, I just kept one.

Hi Randy,

Thanks. I have one plant that I lost the tag for but looks exactly like Ami's. Huge tomatoes with dark vertical stripes. The potato leaf Novikov's is under plastic and is producing nice tomatoes but nowhere near the size of the the no-name outside. The only problem with the one outside is some of the fruit has blight.

I grew it last year, seeds from Andrey. It was early, great tasting, potato leafed, and very big plant. Alas, this year it got hit by leaf disease and is not doing well.
