Berkeley Tie-Dye

I got the seeds for this one from my crosstown friend Bigcheef. I expected a very pretty tomato with mediocre taste. Instead, it is just the opposite, in my opinion. I don't find this tomato very pretty. I was surprised, however, when I tasted one. The taste is very good. It is fullbodied and very tangy. While it won't crack my top 5 this year, I have seen years when it would. I may grow this one again, although, I doubt it will find a spot in my garden every year. For those with a trained eye; yes the sliced tomato and the one on the scales are not the same one. So far they are weighing just over 12 ounces and production has been good. They are a late variety as grown here since they have only been coming in for the last week.

Looks like BTD to me, or one of its brethren. I have tried not BTD Heart and found it had a tangy zippyness and sweetness that I really liked.

I tried BTD at a tasting, and I thought it was very good.

The taste wound up being much better than expected - I'd say 7 out of 10....but I've noticed it is relatively susceptible to late blight early in the season.
