Ramapo Seeds Arrived Today
Since this weekend is my scheduled seed starting time, that was perfect timing.
I wasn't going to order any, but I was going through some old papers and found a receipt for my first semester's tuition AND housing at Cook College (Rutgers). $417.86...I figured I'd send 'em eight bucks for seeds, as my college education was a bargain (and it really wasn't THAT long ago). |

Thanks for the heads up. I've been wondering if anyone got theirs yet. It'll be about two weeks before I start seeds.

I am soaking seed right now in warm water, going to put them in a cowpot today to germinate. Bark-I am very interested in your side-by-side comparison this year. Pls keep us updated.

Special in the sense that it was/is a darn good hybrid, and was bred about the same time that Jet Star and Moreton Hybrid and Supersonic were bred, all Harris bred varieties, and I can compare Ramapo to them.
But more special since seed production stopped maybe 8-10 years ago and many folks such as myself contacted Rutgers and asked what the story was. And I also talked to Mark Willetts at Harris seeds b'c Harris and TGS were two of the places where the F1 seed was available to the public. And even more special since when something is hard to come by, the demand is there, thus lots of folks just had to have it, never knowing much about it. We grew it on the farm years ago and Barkeater also had hands on contact with it. Of all the folks who have posted here about it I bet there are few other than Bark and myself who grew it years ago. But then you've also got to factor in the superlative PR that Rutgers has engaged in, which also creates demand IN a way I can compare it to the situation with black tomatoes, of which there were initially just 1-2 listed in the YEarbook when I first joined and then they became a fad and where there is demand the varieties will appear. Those who have grown out a lot of blacks in the same season have seen that's there's not a heck of a lot of difference with many of them. And now there's over a 100 black varieties listed in the Yearbook. And starting a few years back Craig and I predicted that the same thing would happen with the green when ripes, and it certainly has.

Received mine today. I had ordered an extra pack because of the shipping. So if someone wants a few seeds let me know. I will put this in the seed exchange also. Jay

I received mine today as well. I like the idea of a Ramapo thread, during the ripening season.
