Maybe the horrible taste of store tomatoes is a blessing in disguise? Do incidences of tainted produce seem to be on the rise, or is the finding and reporting of cases just more common? I am only 40, so maybe some of the more seasoned on this forum could respond?

When did 40 years old become "younger"?

I'm not sure, but what the heck, I remember going to eat with grandpa & grandma. Met some couple in their 90's. Told my 80 year old grandparents they were youngsters.
I guess to somebody that is older than 40, I am younger, but I sure feel old somedays.

I'm not sure the incidence is up all that much, but I do think that it has the potential to affect more people each time, due to the amount of produce potentially tainted in one commercial field or one processing plant, and the wide area to which a given batch of produce may be shipped.

Stopped in the nearest Wal Mart tonight and the tomatoes are gone from the shelves in the produce section.

Still had Campari's, one local greenhouses tomatoes at our United last night. Didn't see all the "vine ripened ones you usually see. I imagine they have been pulled. Know some of those have said raised in Mexico. JD

So does the understaffed. underfunded FDA. So do the Florida tomato growers who are sitting on millions of dollars worth of tasteless tomatoes wondering when they will be able to sell them again.

I work for a small organic farm and the Potted Tomato Plants are selling for $8 are 2 ft tall (they are getting out of control should the truth be told ) in a Gallon pot and walking out the door .

The Farmer told us that FDA food "scares" are great for him and remind people to buy locally ,organic and direct from the farmstand or Farmers Market .
