Land of the Midnight Sun
We had a brief clearing of the clouds last night around 11 p.m. These pictures were taken closer to 11:30.

Thanks, dcarch! That particular columbine jumped ship and is growing in the gravel path. I didn't have the heart to pull it. The copper caps are just plain copper caps ... not the lamps. They are a recent addition. And my husband made the outdoor furniture. He's a pretty handy guy!

Your hard work certainly has paid off with your beautiful yard Sherry. It looks like an inviting spot. The dogs must be well trained to behave in your garden!

Any issues with bear and your garden? Aren't they all over the place there? Greg |

So does the sun just circle the sky at the horizon, or are there parts when it dips below the horizon before coming back up?
I saw a clip on Planet Earth of the sun circling, giving 24 hours of sunlight.

Thanks, everybody. I've never had a bear (that I know of!) here in the yard, although they are definitely around in this area. We do have moose though, which can do more damage to a garden.
Here in the part of the state where I live (near Anchorage), the sun does dip below the horizon for a bit, but it still stays light at this time of year. And of course on the other end of the year, it stays dark most of the time. In the northern part of the state it stays dark 24/7 for a period of time. I would hate that. Sherry Edit: The dogs are not allowed in the garden. I have several funky little fences to 'guide' them around the flower beds. Usually it works! Last edited by Sherry_AK; June 10, 2008 at 02:38 PM. Hi Sherry, I get home sick for Norway by watching your pictures from 11:30pm! Very nice garden! Thanks for sharing!
Do you grow strawberries? Strawberries get sweeter the more light they get, this is why Norwegian strawberries are so good. Hilde |

Hilde -- I do grow strawberries. I have an entire raised bed (large ... probably 8 x 16') planted with them. Now that is one bed I really can't keep the dogs out of!
