Tomato Leaves in the Evening
Nearly every night I have a small heart attack when I come home to find the new growth on my tomato plants seeming to wilt as the leaves curl closed. Now since my plants continue to do well overall, and they typically look good on the weekends during the day my guess is this is just a natural change that happens as the sun sets and the air cools. Has anyone else noticed this with their plants at dusk?

Further looking into it seems to indicate that my pruning of the plants is what caused it to be extra bad last night. This afternoon they're all looking grand.

I've found that tomatoes often react to stress they don't like by curling leaves. That could mean it's too hot, too dry, too cold, too wet, aphids, too much or too little fertilizer - or, I guess, pruning.
Peppers react the same way, but instead of curling leaves they turn 'em upside down. I'm glad your plants are looking OK now. |
