Default Bad crop this year on LOng Island

This year was our worst year for tomatoes. We did get many cherry and grape but almost all of our large tomatoes were either cracked or spotted. I want to run this past the readers in this group. Could this be the culprit? We have a swamp maple tree and this year more than ever it has blocked a great deal of sunlight? Could this be the cause of our bad crop?

Elliot, I don't live to far from you and my experiance was that it was an ok year. It was humming along great until the rains in mid to late august over watered the plants (which causes the cracking). I think soil drainage is key.
Even still- I had a decent year

Elliot, I'm further east than you and my crop this year was so-so, but mainly due to all that rain we had. The more sun the tomatoes can get the better. Besides excessive rain this year, my biggest culprits were birds and squirrels taking bites out of my fruits.

I am in Westchester, NY.

I am having the best year this year.

Yes, lots of cracking from rain. I just keep making them into sun dried tomatoes.

For the first time in many years, I am having big white fly problems.

Ciao dcarch-

I'm also having white fly problems and normally, I don't see them at all. They're especially bad on my container plants. I think it's the cool damp weather.
